In FINAL FANTASY XIV, Cutter's Cry served as the feeding ground for Chimera for over thirty years, devouring many merchants or woodcutters entering the area. Despite having been defeated before the calamity in the first version of the dungeon in patch 1.21, Chimera survived and took the life of the sellsword Sibold's companion, after burying their body the Warrior of Light entered Cutter's Cry to slay Chimera once more, hopefully for good.

Chimera is not entirely unique in FINAL FANTASY XIV, as there are various additional Chimera-type creatures throughout the game. Despite this, the Chimera Boss Monster is the only known "pure" Chimera, with otheres being local variants or strange replications of the original beast.
